(1985)"Get Up and Jump" is a song by
Red Hot Chili Peppers from their 1984 debut album, the eponymous "The Red Hot Chili Peppers". It is the fourth song on the album, and was the second single released. Its title is fitting as the song is lively and fast-paced. The song features a manic slap bass groove, which incorpates, slap, pop and the ghost note technique and seems to be one of the most discussed bass hooks in existence. Flea played a musicman bass on the debut record, and that time the songs were heavily based on slap/funk grooves, as strongly opposed to the songwriting process the band use today. The main riff, which is the basis of the song, is a mixture of hammer-ons and pull-offs. This song, and "Out in L.A." were the first two songs the Chili Peppers wrote. They were played before the Peppers got a record deal and they were just an opening act known as Tony Flow and the Miraculous Masters of Mayhem.Track listing
