Debre Berhan Zuria

Debre Berhan Zuria ("Greater Debre Berhan") is one of the 105 woredas in the Amhara Region of Ethiopia. Located at the eastern edge of the Ethiopian highlands in the Semien Shewa Zone, Debre Berhan Zuria is bordered on the south by Angolalla Terana Asagirt, on the southwest by Siyadebrina Wayu Ensaro, on the northwest by Moretna Jiru, on the north by Mafud Mezezo Mojana, and on the east by Ankober. The town and woreda of Debre Berhan is an enclave inside this woreda.

Information is lacking on the towns of this woreda.

Based on figures published by the Central Statistical Agency in 2005, this woreda has an estimated total population of 154,618 of whom 77,272 were males and 77,346 were females. With an estimated area of 1,233.74 square kilometers, Debre Berhan Zuria has an estimated population density of 125.3 people per square kilometer, which is less than the Zone average of 134.37. The Battle of Segale, was fought on 27 October 1916 in this woreda. In this battle, the supporters of Emperor Iyasu V of Ethiopia were defeated, which secured the outcome of the palace coup the previous month which led to Zawditu being proclaimed Empress.
