The team was founded in
1971 as theVancouver Nats and also played in Kamloops,British Columbia as theKamloops Chiefs before moving to Seattle in1977 . The team's original name was the Seattle Breakers but they were renamed to the Thunderbirds in1985 . The current coach is Rob Sumner, who replaced Dean Chynoweth in May2004 . The general managerRuss Farwell is best known for acquiringEric Lindros from theQuebec Nordiques during his tenure as the GM for thePhiladelphia Flyers .Championships
