(1989)"(It's Just) The Way That You Love Me" written by Oliver Leiber is
Paula Abdul 's second single from the albumForever Your Girl .Song information
After the moderate success of Abdul's first single "Knocked Out", her record company, Virgin Records, gave her the green light to finish the rest of her debut album. In June 1988, Abdul's debut album "Forever Your Girl" was released, along with her follow up single "(Its Just) The Way That You Love Me". Virgin and Abdul's producers felt that it was necessary to remix the song for its single release, hence the addition of (It's Just) to the song's title. The song failed to attract much attention, despite its dance-pop remix, and it further alienated the small R&B fan base that "Knocked Out" had gathered. The song stalled at #88 on Billboard's Hot 100.
In the UK territory, "(It's Just) The Way That You Love" was Abdul's second single release, following "Knocked Out" in 1988. It failed to chart in the Top 100, although after the success of "Straight Up" (1989), "Forever Your Girl" (1989) and the re-issue of "Knocked Out" in 1989, this song was also re-issued but it was not a success. It charted at #86 on 25th November 1989, going on to peak at #74 the following week, becoming Abdul's least successfil release in the UK.
Re-release
Abdul would re-release "The Way That You Love Me", in its original edit, in the autumn of 1989. It became a huge success, peaking at #3 on Billboard’s Hot 100.
Video
The Video for "(It's Just) The Way That You Love Me" was Abdul's first venture with director
David Fincher , who would in the future direct her most successful videos. The video consisted of Abdul dancing and singing with male dancers at a photo shoot, while expensive product shots were flashed in and out. It also featured Abdul's first tap dancing sequence, which would make her famous in her follow up video "Straight Up".Re-release video
A new video would be made with the same theme and director for the re-release. It consisted of less dancing and more interaction between Abdul and her material world.
