Tenchungya

Tenchungya

A tribal people living in the south-eastern area of Bangladesh called the Chittagong Hill Tracts. They are Buddhists, unlike the Muslim majority.

The Tanchangya (not Tenchungya) is one of the thirteen indigenous ethnics in Chittangong Hill Tracts, Bangladesh. Like the other twelve ethnics, the Tanchangyas have been living in Chittagong Hill Tracts since its pre-historic age, and traditionally Theravadin Buddhists. Apart from Chittagong Hill Tracts, Tanchangyas have been living in North-east Indian states, like Asam, Tripura, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, etc.; and in Arakana state of Myanmar (Burma). Today, Tanchangya is a developing ethnic in international level. For detail about the Tanchangyas social framework and its gradual modernization, you are suggested to read the "Tanchangya Jatir Pariciti" by Rati Kantha Tanchagya.
