KVEC 920 AM is a radio station located in San Luis Obispo on the Central Coast of California. The station airs a variety of nationally syndicated talk show programs in addition to "home town radio" shows such as that of Dave Congalton. KVEC was owned by Clear Channel Communications.Recently the station was sold to El Dorado Broadcasters LLC, 12370 Hesperia Rd. Suite 17, Victorville, CA 92395, which pink-slipped many of the employees on 11-30-07 including most of the on-air talent, as reported by [http://www.ksby.com/Global/story.asp?S=7435167 KSBY-TV] (the local NBC affiliate originally owned by KVEC when it was founded). For over a week there was no local morning show, until public pressure brought back one of the local weekday morning hosts, King Harris, 6-9am. The Dave Congalton Show continues to air live weekdays from 3pm to 7pm. "Dave Congalton has been the #1 talk show host on the Central Coast since his popular radio show debuted in January 1992," according to their website. The station also changed network affiliation to Fox, and no longer carries ABC's Paul Harvey News, which it had since at least the 1960s. KVEC was the first radio station in San Luis Obispo. Its initials came from the original owners' business, Valley Electric Company. In 2008 a local on-air personality known as Santa Maria Bill feuded with 1340 am (Air America) over programming, prompting Dave Congalton to announce on the air that they had nothing to do with the feud, and that any complaints from 1340 should go to Bill, not the KVEC station manager.
