Belleisle, New Brunswick

Belleisle, New Brunswick

Belleisle is an informal geographic region in the Canadian province of New Brunswick in the lower Saint John River valley.

Situated around Belleisle Bay, the area is predominantly agricultural and functions as a summer community for many cottage-goers from nearby Saint John. The region is divided between Kings County and Queens County.

Locally pronounced, "Blyle", the community of Belleisle Creek and Belleisle Foods, a McCain Foods subsidiary, derive their name from the region (which is in-turn named after the bay).

*There are three ferries operating in Belleisle. First, the Evandale Ferry leaves Kars and lands at Evandale on the west bank of the Saint John River. It is part of Route 124. Next, on Route 705, is the Hampstead Ferry which leaves Wickham and lands at Hampstead, just north of Evandale. Thirdly, the Belleisle Bay Ferry leaves from Springfield and lands at Long Point. This is the only ferry of the three which has both wharves in the Belleisle Region. The alternative to taking this ferry is a quick drive up Route 850 and crossing a bridge on Route 124 into Springfield. All three ferries are river cable ferries, which are common in Southwest New Brunswick and often make up part of the highway system.
