Sir John Orde, 1st Baronet (22 December 1751 – 19 February 1824), was the third son of John Orde, of Morpeth, Northumberland, and the brother of Thomas Orde-Powlett, 1st Baron Bolton. He joined the Royal Navy, promoted Captain 1778, Rear Admiral 1795, Vice Admiral 1799 and was eventually promoted to an Admiral of the Red. He served as Governor of Dominica from 1783 until 1793. and on 9 August 1790 he was made a baronet. In 1797 he became so exasperated with the Earl St Vincent that he challenged him to a duel. As a Vice Admiral in 1805 he commanded a squadron of six ships of the line off Cadiz, flagship HMS "Glory". From 1807 until 1812 he served as Member of Parliament for Yarmouth.
He had one son, Sir John Powlett Orde, 2nd Baronet (1803–1878) who succeeded him.
