Toledo Christian Schools

Toledo Christian Schools is a co-educational, private, Christian non-denominational school in Toledo, Ohio. It is part of the ACSI (Association of Christian Schools International) and is well-known for its excellence in academics, music, and athletics.

History

Toledo Christian Schools first opened in 1975, in the basement of the Toledo Gospel Tabernacle (First Alliance Church) as an elementary school. As time progressed the school grew and began to add more classes including high school courses. With the growth of the school they began to move to locations which would accommodate them better. In 1980 the school was moved to Faith Lutheran Church, two years later it moved to Bethel Lutheran Church, followed by its move to Holy Spirit Seminary in 1986. In 1986 the school graduated its first senior class which was only one student, followed by a class containing 19 students. Today the school's average graduating class is around 50 students. In 1988 the school moved into the old Toledo McAuley High School; where it is currently located.

tudent Body

The student body is an eclectic group that shares a common interest in Christian ministry. It consists of various minorities, Christian denominations, and ages. The current student body as a whole (kindergarten through twelfth grade) is numbered to be 804 students with an average of seventeen students per teacher and three students per computer. The student body is involved in a variety of causes including, but not limited to, Christmas baskets, Hannah's Socks, and community service.

Campus

The Toledo Christian Campus is located off of the Anthony Wayne Trail near the Maumee River and Walbridge park. The versatile athletic field is used as a football, soccer, baseball, and softball field. Although the campus lacks a track this does not hinder the track and field program in any way. The building has five stories; however, only three stories are used for educational purposes. A new gymnasium was recently remodeled and is used for holding basketball games and pep rallies as well as special gatherings and plays. The chapel is located above the art wing; this room was once used for the weekly chapel meetings for the student body, but has since been discontinued for this purpose. Instead, the chapel is used as a rehearsal room for the music program, which includes an orchestra, band, and chamber choir.

Academics

Toledo Christian Schools prides itself on its academic excellence. Its test scores have repeatedly been recorded as some of the highest in the area. The school continually places well in academic competitions across the state in writing and mathematics. Courses are offered in a wide range of studies including math, history, geography, English, foreign language, sign language, business law, science, computer aided design, economics, computers, t.v. production and music. The academics are focused on preparing and enabling each and every student to excel in college and their future careers. Most students maintain an unweighted G.P.A. of at least 3.0 or higher while the average student's G.P.A. is around a 3.5 . The schools graduation rate is nearly flawless.

Music Program

The music program at Toledo Christian is exceptional for the school's relatively small size. Currently, there is an orchestra, band, pep band, chamber choir, and a special audition choir called "Canticle." In the spring of 2007, the orchestra, band, and canticle traveled to a well-reputed music competition. All three groups won awards and honors for their performances in their respective categories. All of the music groups have played at various functions for reasons including, but not limited to, charity, entertainment, and fund-raising.

Athletics

The athletic program at Toledo Christian is well-known for its successful teams and individuals. The sports included are football, soccer, cross country, golf, tennis, wrestling, basketball, indoor and outdoor track and field, baseball, softball, swimming, gymnastics, and equestrian. Along with a very successful cheerleading club. The school is a member of the OHSAA; there have been individual qualifiers in the state tournament in wrestling, cross country, track, swimming, tennis, and golf. The Cross Country, Track and Volleyball teams have qualified as a team for state events. In 2007, the football team qualified for its first playoff game ever. In recent years, the basketball team has been noted for its successes, including an undefeated regular season in 2006-2007.

Clubs

Currently, there are only 6 clubs: the drama club, paintball, cooking, scrapbook, bowling, and the French club. The drama club performs skits during the weekly chapel and also produces a play in the spring. French club travels to France in the summer. The other 4 meet after school somedays and do whatever their name decides them to do.
