- Keiyo District
Keiyo District (also known as "Elgeyo district") is an administrative district in the
Rift Valley Province ofKenya . The district was formed in 1994, when "Elgeyo/Marakwet-District" was split into two, the other half isMarakwet District of today. Keiyo District has a population of 143.865 [http://www.cck.go.ke/html/final_annex1_cover_status.pdf] . Its capital is located in theIten /Tambach town.Local people are mostly of the
Elgeyo Tribe. Some famous Kenyan runners come from the district, includingSaif Saaeed Shaheen (born Stephen Cherono). The area is used by local and foreign athletes for high-altitude training.Local authorities:
