3 January 1896 –25 September 1972 ) was a professional footballer, born inAndover , who played for Southampton. During his career with the club, which lasted ten years from 1918 to 1928, he scored 193 goals placing him third on the club's list of all-time goalscorers, behindMick Channon andMatthew Le Tissier . In 1922 he made two appearances for theEngland national football team .In March 1928, he signed for Manchester United, where he scored 19 league goals in 35 appearances, spanning three years. In November 1929, he moved to Port Vale, before moving to New Milton and Newport (Isle of Wight).
