Club
McCormack plays his club
hurling and football with his local Mallow club and has enjoyed some success. In 1996 he won a senior county title with his local divisional side Avondhu.Inter-county
McCormack first came to prominence on the inter-county scene in the mid-1990s as a member of the Cork junior team. He won both Munster and All-Ireland titles with the team in 1994. This brought him to the attention of the senior selectors and he made his championship debut against Kerry in 1995. McCormack’s arrival on the scene coincided with one of the bleakest spells in Cork hurling. In spite of a lack of championship success he did win a
National Hurling League medal in 1998. This acted as a launch-pad for Cork and McCormack collected his first senior Munster title in 1999. It was Cork’s first provincial title since 1992. McCormack later won a senior All-Ireland medal as Cork defeated Kilkenny in the championship decider for the first time in twenty-one years. He won a second Munster title in 2000, however, Cork were later defeated by Offaly in the All-Ireland semi-final. McCormack’s involvement with the inter-county team ended shortly afterwards.Teams
