Yak-28MST

The Yak-28MST is a fictional aircraft based on the Yakovlev Yak-28, depicted in the "Stratos 4" anime franchise as a trainer aircraft. The "MST" suffix is derived from "Meteor Sweepers" and "Trainer". (The Meteor Sweepers are a ground-based para-military organization whose duty is to prevent meteor fragments from falling on Earth by destroying them with special interceptor aircraft.) The trainers have callsigns "Trainer 01", "Trainer 02", "Trainer 03", etc.

There are at least 4 Yak-28MSTs in the anime. The instructor sits on the top cockpit, while the student lies stomach-down in the nose cockpit. Both cockpits have HUDs. The trainers are unarmed, but can be equipped with colored-smoke generators for air shows.

As with its real-life counterpart, the Yak-28MST is only capable of reaching high-subsonic speeds at low altitudes and low-supersonic at higher heights. The Yak-28MST is not used for weapons training, but only for basic flight lessons, navigation training and air show displays.
