Nemesio I. Yabut Elementary School

The Nemesio I. Yabut Elementary School (NIYES) is a Philippine public school located on Escuela St. Guadalupe Nuevo, Makati City, Philippines.

History

The school was founded as the Guadalupe Elementary School in 1940. When the population of the school increased, the school was divided into two, the Guadalupe Elementary School (GES V) and the Guadalupe Elementary School 1 (GES1) in 1961. GES enjoyed improvements on infrastructure and a large population while GES1 had little or no improvements. As a result, the two schools were reunited on 1992 and was renamed Nemesio I. Yabut Elementary School (NIYES) in honor of the late Makati Mayor Nemesio I. Yabut

Dengue Outbreak

In 2006, television reports say that a Grade 3 pupil died and five more pupils got sick of dengue because of the abundant number of Aedes mosquitoes in the school. A larva trapping was conducted and it was indeed found that 17 of the 100 cans contained the eggs of the Aedes mosquitoes. Recently, a campaign has been started to alert the students about dengue and its prevention.
