- Govinda IV
Govinda IV (930 - 935) C.E. was the younger brother of
Amoghavarsha II who became theRashtrakuta king in 930 as described in the Kalasa record ofChikmagalur . He was a very unpopular ruler who indulged in licentious acts.Reu (1933), p81] Control overKannauj was lost during his rule. The Chalukyas ofVengi defeated him and much territory was lost. Finally, his own feudatories including King Arikesari of Vemulavada inAndhra revolted against him and placedAmoghavarsha III on the throne in 935. This is known from the records ofKannada PoetAdikavi Pampa , who was patronised by King Arikesari.Kamath (2001), p82] Govinda IV had matrimonial relationship with theCholas ofKanchi and finally found refuge with them when his feudatories revolted.
