Thurman is currently a scout for the New York Yankees, in the Pacific Northwest.
Thurman was drafted in the first round (31st overall) of the 1994 amateur draft, after playing for Oregon State University in college. Thurman is a graduate of Philomath High School, where he has made numerous contributions to the baseball program and also has served as a coach during a summer league. Thurman's records still stand at Philomath.
