SynchronX

SynchronX

SynchronX was a program developed by Clickteam. It provided a fast way to keep data in sync from one location to another. It did this by analyzing the timestamps of the files that you wanted to synchronize. When a file was found to be older than a copy elsewhere, you were able to update the older copy with the new version. SynchronX does support multiple profiles, in the form of little text files containing the directories to be synced and the extensions and/or files to be avoided. SynchronX allows to create these files in the desktop as '.syx' files with icon, with current settings.

When SynchronX finds that both directories contain newer files, it allows a cross-copy with a previous warning.

Limitations

Earlier versions of SynchronX were known to have a bug that reported file timestamps incorrectly even after a successful sync.

The program also uses a custom titlebar, which can be seen in the screenshot above. However, in Windows XP, this titlebar is glitchy at best. This is because Windows XP uses the "Luna" theme. The titlebar in Luna is larger than than the one in pre-XP versions of Windows, and uses a different font. This causes the Close, Maximize and Minimize buttons to be out-of-place in their click detection. For example, if you pressed the left side of the Close button when using Windows XP's Luna theme, the program would detect this as a click on the Maximize button instead. As a workaround, Windows XP users would need to use the Windows Classic theme. SynchronX had been cancelled shortly before Windows XP was released, so the developers never fixed this issue and it still remains in the last build released. This exact same problem occurs in Windows Vista.
