Laurie Sivell

Laurie Sivell

Laurence "Laurie" Sivell (February 8, 1951 in Lowestoft, England) was a goalkeeper with English soccer team Ipswich Town between 1969 and 1984. He made 141 appearances for the East Anglian club during that time despite primarily being the understudy to more permanent goalkeepers that included David Best and Paul Cooper. Also had a two game loan spell with Lincoln City back in the 1978-1979 season.

Sivell was noted for his bravery, typically diving at the feet of oncoming strikers to snatch the ball and, despite his diminutive size (for a goalkeeper) he had considerable athletic ability.

Trivia

Sivell played the German goalkeeper in the 1981 film Escape to Victory (Also known as Victory in the US).
