1997 "Neon Genesis Evangelion" movies "" and "The End of Evangelion ". It is considered the final form of the "Evangelion" movies, which were released in several forms prior to "Revival".Death(true)2
The first part of the compilation, "Death", was originally released as part of "" which itself consisted of two parts. "Death" consists of a 60-minute edit of the "Neon Genesis Evangelion" television show, including redone scenes and several new scenes. The version used in "Revival", called "Death(true)²" is a re-editing of "Death" without the new scenes (which were added to the Director's Cut of the television series) and a few minor changes. The second half, "Rebirth," consisted of the first part of "The End of Evangelion" and therefore is an early unfinished version of the second "Evangelion" movie.
Air / My Purest Heart for You
The second part of "Revival", "Air / My Purest Heart for You", consists of the movie "
The End of Evangelion ".Video release
The movie never made it in its cinematic form to a VHS-, Laserdisc- or DVD-release. Instead there were two separate releases for "The End of Evangelion" and "Death and Rebirth" (which included the "Death(true)²"-Version of "Death").However the "Renewal of Evangelion"-DVD Box´ (which marks the final DVD-release of "Evangelion" in Japan) discs 9 and 10 contained the movies "Death(true)²" and "The End of Evangelion" in its video-form (see the article to EoE). These 2 discs were dubbed "Revival of Evangelion". This could be regarded as the "final-final" version of the Evangelion films.
