Henery Hawk /Foghorn Leghorn animated short film fromWarner Bros. released in 1946 and directed byRobert McKimson . All voice characterizations are performed byMel Blanc .Henery Hawk discuss his cravings with his father, who then tells him he is a chicken hawk and as such must feed on chickens. Meanwhile, in a barnyard,Foghorn Leghorn and The Barnyard Dawg are fighting.Henery meets Foghorn, who tells him he is a horse and pretends the dog is a chicken. After a series of pranks and gags where both the dog and Foghorn argue over who is a chicken (with Foghorn famously accusing the Dog, "Don't you, I say don't you call ME a chicken, you chicken!"), and the two of them tangle with a horse, Henery captures Foghorn, the Dog, "and the horse", mimicking Foghorn and telling the camera that "...one of these things, I SAY, ONE OF THESE THINGS, has "got" to be a chicken!"
The film is mostly notable for being an
Academy Award for Animated Short Film Nominee, losing toMGM 's Tom & Jerry cartoon "The Cat Concerto ", which shared one of 7 oscars for thecat andmouse team.Leghorn's imitation of a whinnying horse, effected by pressing a finger against the side of his nose and creating the nasal sound, mimics the technique Mel Blanc actually used to make the sound.
