Sawahlunto is a city in
West Sumatra ,Indonesia . It has an area of 273.43 km² and a population of over 55,600 people.Administration
Administratively Sawahlunto is divided by 4 districts, 10 sub districts and 27 villages (desa) and 95 kilometer far from Padang (capital of West Sumatra).
Geography
Sawahlunto municipal has an area of 27,345 Ha. Sawahlunto lies at 033’40” – 043’ 33” south latitude and 100 43’ 13” – 100 50’ 40” East Longitude. It's northern border is Tanah Datar Regency, to the east Sawahlunto/Sijunjung Regency, and to the south and west is the Solok Regency.
Sawahlunto is characterised by steep hills, and plains lying between 250 – 650 m above sea level. 34.1% of the land is mixed plantation (34.1%), forest and savannah make up 19.5%, and lakes account for 0.2% from former open cut coal mines.
People
Sawahlunto Municipal has a population 52,457 as of the end of 2005, made up of 24,456 men and 26,777 women. Population density is 191 people/km2. The majority of the population are supported by the mining sector, services, agriculture, and small size industry.
