British Road Services (BRS) was the British road transport company formed by the
nationalisation of Britain's road haulage industry, under theBritish Transport Commission , as a result of theTransport Act 1947 .Ultimately the company was made up of four main operating areas:
* British Road Services Ltd
* BRS Parcels Ltd
*Pickfords
* Containerway and Roadferry LtdIn 1969 it was renamed the "National Freight Corporation". Under the Conservative government of
Margaret Thatcher in 1988 it was sold to its employees in one of the firstprivatisation s of state-owned industry. As a result it was renamed the "National Freight Consortium".As a state-owned business "BRS Parcels" was rebranded as "Roadline", renamed as
LYNX Express after privatisation and is now part of UPS.References
