Radh

Radh

Radh (or Radha) is the section of greater Bengal south-west of the Ganga river. It was also referred to as Ladha or Lara in the Jain text Acaranga Sutra. A Kushana period Jain inscription from Mathura refers to a monk from Rara.

Prince Vijaya, the founder of the Simhala race in Sri Lanka was from "Lala" according to Dipavamsa and Mahavamsa, which is often taken to be Radh.

Radh is divided into two sections:

#Uttara Radh (north Radh):Mursidabad, Birbhum, parts of Santal Parganas, the northern part of Burdwan district.

#Daksina Radh (south Radh): Howrah, Hughli and most of Burdwan regions.
