Loughborough Junction railway station is in Brixton, in the London Borough of Lambeth, between Elephant & Castle and Herne Hill stations. It is served by Southeastern and First Capital Connect.
The first two platforms opened as Loughborough Road station in October 1864, near that road, and were on the north to west spur connecting the main line to the South London Line near Brixton station. On 1 December 1872 platforms were opened on the main line and on the north to east spur. The latter were called the Cambria platforms after the nearby Cambria road. The enlarged station was renamed Loughborough Junction. The first external link below gives a very clear idea of the station site.

The oldest pair of platforms closed on 14 March 1916 as a wartime economy measure, Many lesser-used suburban stations were similarly closed that year. The platforms never re-opened. In the Southern Railway's suburban electrification further rationalisation of services led to the closure of the Cambria platforms on 12 July 1925.

London, Chatham and Dover Railway

In the 1860s the London, Chatham and Dover Railway opened a City Branch into Central London. By 1916 all the stations south of the Thames had been closed except Loughborough Junction. The line between Blackfriars railway station and Loughborough Junction station remains and since 1990 has been part of the Thameslink route south.

London Overground

The South London Line passes above the platforms, but there are no platforms on that line. The South London Line is due to become part of London Overground, although the proposal has attracted criticism,Fact|date=June 2008 as the route will cross over both Brixton railway station and Loughborough Junction stations [cite web

This extension is currently unfunded and is at the proposal stage; as it would also involve the withdrawal of the current South London Line service between Victoria to London Bridge via Denmark Hill there is the suggestion that this extension could be funded as preliminary works for the Thameslink Programme [cite web
