"The Derby Stallion" is a 2005 film starring Zac Efron.

Plot

15-year-old Patrick McCardle (Zac Efron) doesn't know what to do with his life and the pressure from his dad is not helping. But soon he falls in love with horseback riding. He wants to win the Steeples Derby on his horse Rusty. With the help of his new friend Jill Overton (Crystal Hunt) and his trainer Houston Jones (Bill Cobbs), he thinks he can beat his riding enemy Randy Adams (Michael Nardelli), but then disaster strikes...

The Making of the Movie

Zac Efron did learn to ride a horse for the role and did some of his stunts in the movie. Three riding lessons into the making, he was jumping fences.
