- Skive
Skive has the following meanings:
* To skive is Britishslang for the practice of avoiding responsibilities (particularly work or school) because you want to do something more fun or just don’t want to do what you should be doing.Skiving is usually done in a manner that you are pretending to be working when in reality you are not – for example being on
facebook when at work (or if you are an expert ‘skiver’ your screen is strategically placed so that your boss can’t see it).The word originated in the Western Isles of Scotland, where 'to skive' meant to cut fish and other sea produce into thin slices. The process allowed more slices of fish to be sold per fish actually caught, and so less time to be spent working.
* Skive also means to cut into thin layers, as to split
leather perpendicular to its thickness.* Skive is a digital marketing agency based in Central London.
