Quadrant Park

Quadrant Park

Quadrant Park was one of the best known nightclubs in Liverpool during the early 1990s. The club originally started as a mainstream venue much earlier than the introduction of the new styles of music through DJs in 1990.

It was located on Derby Road in Bootle away from the centre, north of the city of Liverpool in a converted warehouse. Originally opened in the late 1980s as a Sunday Market in the downstairs warehouse area, and upstairs contained a small social club which could be hired out for social occasions.

History

After the Sunday market trade had moved mainly moved to a nearby dock warehouse, Quadrant park opened up as a nightclub in the late 1980s. Quadrant Park's Main era in Italian house, Rave and Acid house music began in 1990 and survived until December 1991, despite considerable and persistent licensing issues and unfavourable media attention in newspapers. Mike Knowler was the initial resident and soon invited DJ partner Andy Carroll to join him.Andy had previously been co-responsible with Mike for bringing acid house music to the city of Liverpool (as early as 1986) ,Dj-ing at the legendary venue The State. Several past guest DJ's include Laurent Garnier, Derrick May, Frankie Bones, and Sasha. When the all-nighter opened , John Kelly and James Barton joined the resident DJ crew. The Quad was part of the 'Second Wave' of the 'House Music' Revolution . It was unique in its style of uplifting music at that time and the fact that a loop-hole in a sefton council law enabled them to be THE ONLY actual legal all-night rave in the uk . Coaches used to arrive from all over the UK ,London, Glasgow, Birmingham.... even as far away as Aberdeen. It was a clubbing phenomenon that is fondly etched in the minds of many clubbers to this day .
