Rugby league career
Hobbs started his career at Featherstone and won the Lance Todd trophy in 1983 when Rovers defeated Hull in the Challenge Cup final at Wembley, Rovers won 14-12.
In his playing career he played for Featherstone, then transferred to Bradford Northern, he became coach at Northern until he left for Wakefield Trinity in 1994. He then went to Halifax as Director of Football.
In 2005, Hobbs was appointed coach of his first team, Featherstone Rovers halfway through the season after Gary Price left, he failed to save Rovers from relegation but is still rebuilding the team.
His brother, Kevin Hobbs, also played for Featherstone, who also coached the Rovers in 1999.
1983 Challenge Cup Final
Hobbs' finest moment probably came in the 1983 Challenge Cup Final at Wembley where he won the Lance Todd trophy as Featherstone beat the heavily favoured Hull F.C team in the biggest upset in Wembley history.
International honours
David Hobbs won caps for England while at Featherstone Rovers in 1984 against Wales, and won caps for Great Britain while at Featherstone Rovers in 1984 against France (2 matches), Australia, Australia (sub), New Zealand (3 matches), and Papua New Guinea, while at Oldham in 1987 against France (2 matches), and while at Bradford Northern in 1989 against New Zealand, and New Zealand (sub).[1]
