Roswell, Georgia , as anemerging company developing network infrastructure products for theInternet market. Their mission was to provide unique solutions that enable Internet-based companies to deliver better services to their customers and to efficiently scale their web operations. Led by a seasoned team of over 28software engineers , Pharsalia focused on developing software products for the rapidly escalatingcontent delivery market. The company was headed by Chip Howes, whose team is the inventor of record for over 30patents in the area ofTCP/IP serverload balancing , and are credited with the invention of the technology in 1996.Pharsalia was acquired by
Alteon WebSystems ofSan Jose, California onJuly 21 ,2000 in a stock swap worth about $221 million. Subsequently, Alteon was acquired byNortel Networks onOctober 4 ,2000 .After integrating the company into Nortel Networks, most of the original team was
