The 2001 COPABA Tournament of the Americas, known now as the FIBA Americas Championship (or as well Championship of the Americas for Men) was hosted by Argentina from August 16 to August 27, 2001. The games were played in Neuquén. This COPABA championship was to earn berths at the 2002 FIBA World Championship in Indianapolis, Indiana, United States. Argentina won the tournament, the country's first Americas championship.

Final Standings
Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Puerto Rico, and Venezuela qualified for the 2002 FIBA World Championship in Indianapolis, United States. The United States had previously qualified by winning the Gold Medal at the 2000 Olympics and by hosting the competition.
