It was introduced by ITV as a replacement for "News at Ten", to allow for more dramas on prime-time television. It also coincided with a relaunch, which saw the introduction of the "ITV News " brand. Due to a decline in ratings, the programme was cancelled, and a newer version of "News at Ten" (officially "ITV News at Ten") was launched, and the final programme was hosted on19 January 2001 . The Friday edition of the newscast remained at 11pm, but was renamed "ITV Weekend News".Presenters

ITV News at 10.30 "In 2004, "ITV News at Ten" was finally cancelled, and in another revamp, ITV News introduced a new newscast called "ITV News At Ten Thirty", presented by Trevor McDonald. In 2005, Trevor McDonald retired as head-anchor at ITN, being replaced by
Mark Austin , who later presented the programme. However, in early 2006, when ITV revamped its identity, "ITV News at Ten Thirty" was supposed to be relaunched as the new "ITV Nightly News". However, no such thing ever happened, with the programme either being advertised as "ITV News at 10.30" (on the programme), or simply "ITV News" (in listings). This never occurred, as the "
ITV News at 10.30 " ended on10 January 2008 , and "News at Ten" returned on14 January 2008 , Mondays to Thursdays, and the chances of "ITV Nightly News" returning were completely eradicated on the creation of the "ITV Late News " airing on Fridays at 11pm.
