"Ghost Dogs of Moon Lake" is based on two books, "Ghost Dogs of Whispering Oaks" and "Mystery by Moonlight". This is the seventh game in the series of Nancy Drew computer games. The game was released in 2002. This game has only 3 seeable suspects, unlike most other Nancy Drew games.

Plot

A friend of Nancy's dad, Sally McDonald, has fled from her house in terror. Every other night, a pack of ghost dogs with glowing eyes and mournful howls, which were believed to be owned by a gangster named Mickey Malone, were attacking her house, as he was a previous owner of the house. There is also a rumor in the area that Malone had gold buried on his property. In the game, Nancy attempts to find out if the ghosts dogs are actually ghosts and if not, who trained them to attack the house. She also tries to find the rumor of the gold. This game takes place in the fictional town of Moon Lake, Pennsylvania.

Characters

Nancy Drew - Nancy is a detective who was asked by Sally to solve the case. She is an unseen character.

Sally McDonald - The owner of Malone's beachhouse which supposedly Malone's dogs come and attack every other night.

Red Knott - Red is a misanthropic birdwatcher who works mainly at night and hates noise of any kind.

Emily Griffen - Emily is the friendly owner of a Em's Emporium at Moon Lake.

Jeff Akers - Ranger Akers is the only ranger at Moon Lake. He loves to ticket people. His father is Joe Akers.

Vivian Whitmore - Malone's old girlfriend. You only talk to her over the phone.

Eustacia Andropov - A returning character from "The Final Scene". She is Harry Houdini's cousin, and only makes a small cameo over the phone when talking to Vivian.

Accidents

As with all Nancy Drew games, there are many fatal accidents, such as:

*Not fixing the motorboat's engine correctly, resulting in exploding the motorboat
*Not wearing a lifejacket when you first ride the motorboat and drowning
*Failing to get out of the burning shed in time, resulting in an explosion
*Not putting out the fire in time after escaping the shed, also resulting in an explosion
*Not turning the wheel before opening the door on the safe and (what seems to be) drowning
*Being hit over the head with a bone by the culprit at the end of the game
*Walking on rotten floorboards and falling through
*Walking down the tunnel to the speakeasy with out changing the batteries first and (supposedly) falling
*Exploding the shed using the Easter egg

However, if the player makes a mistake, they may click on "Second Chance" at the main menu and it will take them back to the place before they made that mistake.

*Red Knott's name is a play on the name of an actual bird, the Red Knot.
*The photos of the fishing derby contestants are some of the crew who worked on the game.
*Call Solver (555-7658) or Manon (555-6266) and you'll receive an Easter egg. When you walk to the forest, you can use the Easter egg to go through new paths.
*One of the videos that you can rent in Em's Emporium was shown on a poster in The Final Scene.
*One of the posters in Em's Emporium is one advertising flights piloted by Millie Benson. Mildred Wirt Benson was the original author of the Nancy Drew novels.
