Council of Santhenar

Council of Santhenar

The Council of Santhenar was an alliance of powerful people in Ian Irvine's fictional series of books, "The View from the Mirror". The Council of Santhenar is lead by the Magister.

History

The Council was originally formed to combat the threat of the Charon. In particular Rulke. The Council consisted of both great scholars and powerful mancers. Though most members at least held some form of power with the Secret Art.

It was the Council of Santhenar who first created the concept of the Nightland and imprisoned Rulke within it. Its purpose ever after was to find away to permanately end the threat of the Greatest of the Charon. All the members of the Council, from the time of Rulke's capturing, died within a year of that achievement, except for Mendark and Tensor. Yggur was betrayed by the Council and left to die, though he reappeared centuries later.

Known Members

The Council of Santhenar has consisted of many members over the centuries, however the known members include:

* Rula; The greatest Magister to ever lead the Council.
* Mendark; Magister of the Council since Rula's death (1000 years prior to the View from the Mirror).
* Tensor; Aachim representative.
* Yggur; youngest person ever admitted to the Council.
* Nadiril; Librarian of the Great Library at Zile.
* Orstand; Close friend of Mendark. Greatest intellect admitted to the Council.
* Thyllan; Usurper of the title of the Magister for a short period.
* Hennia; the Zain.
* Wistan; Master of the College of the Histories.
* Nelissa; Arbitrator of the Great Conclave.

All but Yggur and Rula were members of the Council during the events of "The View from the Mirror".

The Numinator

Some one hundred years before the beginning of the Well of Echoes quartet, the Numinator, usurped the control of Santhenar from the Council, who were struggling to create a united front against the invading lyrinx. Many mancers were killed, however the Numinator formed the survivors into the Council of Scrutators, yet his or her word was always final.
