USNS Petrolite (T-AO-164)

USNS Petrolite (T-AO-164)

The USNS Petrolite (T-AO-164) was originally named the SS Hanging Rock, a type T2 tanker. The ship was built at Sun Shipbuilding and Drydock Co. in Chester, PA as hull number 390 and USMC number 1723 in 1944. The U.S. Navy took control of it in 1957, but struck it the same year. It was then sent to MARAD and laid up.

In 1969, it was joined with a Type C4 ship and converted to a container ship. When finished, it was renamed the "Seattle".
