USS Tappahannock (AO-43)

USS "Tappahannock" (AO-43) was a in the United States Navy during World War II. She was the only U.S. Navy ship named with the cognate name for the Rappahannock River in eastern Virginia.

History

"Tappahannock" was laid down as SS "Jorkay", a type T2-A tanker. The ship was built at Sun Shipbuilding and Drydock Co. in Chester, Pennsylvania as hull number 226 and USMC number 157 in 1942. The U.S. Navy took control of it the same year.
