Harold Greene

Harold Greene was an award-winning journalist, best known for working at KCAL 9 News and CBS 2 News in Los Angeles.

Before joining the CBS duopoly, Greene worked in San Diego and for KABC-TV in Los Angeles, where he anchored Eyewitness News for many years. He left the station in 2000 to join KCBS-TV, following, or joining, many other former KABC-TV staffers including Ann Martin, Laura Diaz, Johnny Mountain, and Jim Hill. In his later years with the station, he anchored KCAL's 4pm and KCBS's 6pm newscasts with Ann Martin, Johnny Mountain, and Jim Hill, all of which together anchored newscasts for KABC-TV during the 1980's and early 1990's.

Greene's honors include the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism Award, nine Emmy nominations and two wins, three Edward R. Murrow Awards, ten Golden Mike Awards, twelve L.A. Press Club Awards, and a "Star" on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Harold Greene left KCBS-TV on April 1, 2008 after the station dropped him and several other staffers, including Ann Martin amid budget cuts. It is oft-repeated gossip that Greene during his San Diego tenure was the inspiration for the character of Ron Burgundy in the film, Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy.
