Allegro is a Polish online auction website based in Poznań. It was formed in 1999 and subsequently purchased by online auction site QXL Ricardo plc (now Tradus) in March 2000. Allegro was added to numerous Polish web portals, which increased its popularity and assisted its rapid growth. The company has since used this approach to boost other Tradus-owned sites.

Immensely popular in Poland, Allegro is ranked 177th [http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details/allegro.pl] among the world's most used online websites by Alexa Internet (3 May 2008) - compared to EBay UK at 92nd and EBay Germany at 60th.

Allegro now claims to have seven million users with a new user registering every 16 seconds. In the first nine months of 2007, the company's sales totaled PLN 2.75 billion, while over the whole of 2006 sales were just above PLN 2.5 billion.
