(1997) |"Another Case Of Brewtality" was the fourth full-length album from
Boston, Massachusetts hardcore punk band,Gang Green . It was released onOctober 7 1997 by Taang Records. It follows hotly on the heels of an
EP , "Back & Gacked ", which the band produced only five months previous. It contains 23 tracks, of which six were on the EP.It was the band's first full-length studio album since 1989's "
Older... Budweiser ", and features drummer Walter Gustafson – who had left the band in 1984 and subsequently returned in 1991 to temporarily cover Brian Betzger.Since Mike Lucantonio and Kevin Brooks had left the band after two new tracks were recorded for the "
King Of Bands " compilation, a new guitarist – Mike Earls – and bassist – Matt Sandonato – were found to play on this album. It was also the band's first full-length release for Taang Records since 1985's "Another Wasted Night". On the same day, Taang also re-released all their early material – from 1981 to 1983 – on a CD called "Preschool".
Overview
A return for Walter Gustafson, Taang Records and the band after a five year absence means a return of the super-fast, funtime
hardcore punk for which the band made its name all the way back in 1983.The lyrics are back from the socio-political stance evident in places on "
Older... Budweiser " to a more earthy subject matter – that of drinking (hence the title), women, drinking some more, falling foul of loose women, and generally partying and causing mayhem. Think of a mutant, three-speedAC/DC and you are somewhere in the ball park. The songs are, on the whole, short and pacy with one track falling headlong into another. Fitting in tight tempo changes intermittently and with ease, it is hard to imagine that only one person hereby present – Chris Doherty – was in attendance for the bulk of their limelight career from 1987 to 1991.
They even find space to do a
cover version of a classicStiff Little Fingers song, "Suspect Device", from 1978.It is interesting to note that the closing track is called "Here To Stay" which seems to suggest they had more in the pipeline. They have played a few shows up through 2007.
