Life and career
Turner was raised in Arcadia, California.[1] She grew up in a Los Angeles Suburb as the third daughter of Canadian parents. Her older sisters (Michele Turner and Patricia Turner) and younger brother (Kel) were also active in television and commercials, and from a young age Debbie performed on the small screen. She left show business shortly after the release of her feature film debut, The Sound of Music (1965), to finish school and launch her own business ventures.
She pursued interior design in Beverly Hills and Newport Beach, California, eventually opening her floral and event design company now named DTOflowers,LLC, DBA "Debbie Turner Originals" in 1989. Her business encompasses a wide scope of design, of which the main focus is floral and events. However, she has been designing collectible Santa Claus Dolls since the early 1990s. Her company was awarded the title "Preferred Florist" for the Republican National Convention held in Saint Paul, MN in September 2008.
Turner relocated to Chanhassen, Minnesota in 1985. She raised four daughters with her husband Rick and regularly visits with her Sound of Music family.
Over the years, she has made number of television appearances, including on The Oprah Winfrey Show to discuss the 45th anniversary of The Sound of Music. Turner has been selected as one of three float judges for the 2011 Tournament of Roses Parade.
