- Hammadid
The Hammadids, an offshoot of the
Zirid s, were a Berber dynasty who ruled an area roughly corresponding to modernAlgeria for about a century and a half (1008 -1152 ), until, weakened by theBanu Hilal 's incursions, they were destroyed by theAlmohad s. Soon after coming to power, they rejected theIsmaili doctrine of theFatimid s, and returned toMaliki Sunni sm, acknowledging theAbbasid s as rightfulCaliph s.Their capital was at first
