She competed for the USSR in the
1952 Summer Olympics held inHelsinki ,Finland in theJavelin throw where she won the Silver medal,Long Jump where she also won a silver medal and placed third in theHigh Jump for the bronze medal.On May 22 1954, she broke the world record in women's high jump in Kiev with a jump of 1.73 meters, breaking the previous record of 1.72 meters which had been set in London by
Sheila Lerwill of Great Britain. Her record was broken on May 5 1956 in Belfast by Thelma Hopkins of Great Britain with a jump of 1.74 meters.
