Largely lacking in volcanic activity, the Leeward Antilles
island arc occurs along the deformed southern edge of theCaribbean Plate and was formed by the plate'ssubduction under theSouth American Plate . Recent studies indicate that the Leeward Antilles are accreting to South America.Islands
