Appleton in the minor leagues, he was 9-1 with a 1.82 ERA.In 1979 he was 13-8, and was 6th in the
American League with 3shutout s. He came in 4th in ALRookie of the Year voting, and was voted to the 1979Topps All-Star Rookie Team.Baumgarten pitched a 1-hitter on July 2, 1980, for the White Sox against the California Angels. The lone hit was a single by
Rod Carew in the top of the 7th inning. The White Sox won the game, 1-0.In March 1982 he was traded by the White Sox with Butch Edge to the
