Wes Sims (fighter)

Wesley 'Wes' Edward 'The Project' Sims (born August 4, 1979) is an American mixed martial artist. He is one of the tallest MMA combatants in recent times at 6'10, and is known for his unorthodox fighting style, combat enthusiasm, and amazing strength. He is currently a member of Team Hammer House.

Training in MMA

Sims met Mark Coleman before his fight with Ricardo Morais at PRIDE 8 and started training to compete in MMA. He originally wanted to be a pro wrestler, but got into MMA with Coleman. [ [http://www.ufc.com/index.cfm?fa=fighter.detail&pid=299] Dead link|date=July 2008]

UFC career

In 2003 Sims fought a controversial fight against Frank Mir (a Heavyweight Contender) at UFC 43. In the first round at 2:55 Sims got up while Mir was on his back against the fence and proceeded to stomp on Mir's head several times while holding the fence for extra balance. The fight was stopped and Sims was disqualified.

This started a rivalry between the two and they met again in 2004 at UFC 46. Mir appeared to have easily won the first round with an arm triangle attempt. During the second round it was apparent that both fighters were fatigued, and near the end of the second round Mir hit Sims with knee strikes to the face and then punches to knock Sims out.

Sims fought again in the UFC at the UFC 47 against Mike Kyle. Kyle dominated the entire first round and knocked Sims out at 4:59. Sims protested after the fight that Kyle had bitten him on the chest.
