Euler's Day Off (game)

Euler's Day Off (game)

Euler's Day Off is a letter rearrangement word game.

Objective of the game

The object of the game is to arrange twenty five randomly selected letters in a five-by-five grid to form as many vertical and horizontal words as possible.

coring

Players score one point for each letter in each of the words they have formed. Only words with three or more letters count. The maximum possible score is 50.

Winning

The player with the highest score wins.

* If two or more players have the same score, then the player with the most five letter words is the winner.
* If two or more players have the same number of five letter words, then the player with the most four letter words is the winner.
* If two or more players with the same score also have the same number of five, four "and" three letter words, the players are deemed to have tied.

Play

* Players should agree the criteria for word validity in advance, for example by agreeing to use a particular dictionary.
* Play starts once all twenty-five letters have been selected (see methods of play below).
* Play stops after a predetermined time limit, which should be agreed amongst the players in advance.

Methods of play

The game may be played using pencil and paper, and any method of selecting twenty five random letters may be employed. For example, each player can take it in turn to close their eyes and select a letter by random from a newspaper.
