- Fourche Maline
Fourche Maline ("Bad Fork", French) is a tributary of the
Poteau River in Oklahoma.The headwaters of Fourche Maline are in the
Sans Bois Mountains inLatimer County . It flows southwestward throughRobbers Cave State Park , then southeastward past Wilburton before turning eastward until it reaches the Poteau River inLe Flore County . It is impounded byLake Wayne Wallace andLake Wister .Human habitation in theFourche Maline valley dates from at least 3,500 years ago. TheFourche Maline Culture (300 BC-800 AD) is defined by their use ofpottery and the bow andarrow . The pottery is identified by its plain flat bottoms and thick, black middens. The Fourche Maline Culture evolved into the Caddoan Culture.External links
