International Peace Prize

International Peace Prize

International Peace Prize was an award, established on the First World Congress of Peace followers, held in April, 1949, in Paris. It was awarded by the World Peace Council to people, who worked in various fields of science and arts, for works of art and literature, scientific papers and films, that promoted strengthening peace among peoples. In 1951 the World Peace Council established three types of these awards: the Honorary International Peace Prize, the International Peace Prize (was not awarded since 1957) and Golden Medal of Peace (named Joliot-Curie Golden Medal of Peace since 1959).

It should not be confused with Lenin Peace Prize, that was awarded by an international panel appointed by the Soviet government. Nor should it be confused with the International Peace Prize sold by the American Biographical Institute.
