- Anen
Anen was an
Ancient Egypt ian official during the lateEighteenth dynasty of Egypt . He was the son ofYuya andTjuyu and the brother of QueenTiye , the wife of PharaohAmenhotep III . Under the rule of his brother in law, Anen became the Chancellor ofLower Egypt , Second Prophet ofAmun , sem-priest ofHeliopolis , and acquired the title Divine Father.Anen is depicted in a notable surviving statue (Turin 5484), now in Turin Italy. Inscriptions on Anen's own monuments do not mention the fact that he was Amenhotep III's brother-in-law. [David O'Connor & Eric Cline, Amenhotep III: Perspectives on his reign, University of Michigan Press, 1998, p.6] However, this relationship is established by a short but clear reference to him in his mother Tjuyu's coffin, which stated that her son Anen was the second prophet of Amun. [O'Connor & Cline, op. cit., pp.5-6] He was buried in his tomb in the
Theban Necropolis , on the west bank of theNile opposite Thebes.References
