In the early hours of
25 August ,2005 , a parade for the transporting of the Great Statue ofRamesses II , in one of Cairo's Biggest Squares to the New Grand Museum near the Pyramids of Giza. This is the second trip the King makes after coming from his original Site of discovery 52 years ago, and stayed near the Cairo Train station. The trip took 9 hours, and reached his location on 10 am.According to the
hieroglyph ic scripts on the statue, Ramesses the Second wasHorus , king of North and south Egypt lived over 3300 years ago.Dr.
Zahi Hawass Said that it was time for the King to move home, due to the high pollution levels in the air affecting the statue, and restorations cannot be done anymore.Public impact
The process witnessed an unexpected numbers of
Egyptians . It is said that this was the second largest concentration of Egyptians after theUmm Kulthum Funeral. Over a million Egyptians were watching the event while some were crying, and others were singing the Egyptian National Anthem.External links
