- Ronald W. Schafer
Ronald Schafer (born
February 17 ,1938 in Tecumseh,Nebraska ) is anelectrical engineer notable for his contributions todigital signal processing .After receiving his Ph.D. degree at
MIT in 1968, he joined theAcoustics Research Department atBell Laboratories , where he did research ondigital signal processing anddigital speech coding . He came to theGeorgia Institute of Technology in 1974, where he stayed until joiningHewlett Packard inMarch 2005 .He has served as Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing and as Vice-President and President of the IEEE Signal Processing Society. He is a Life Fellow of the
IEEE and a Fellow of theAcoustical Society of America .He has received the IEEE Region 3 Outstanding Engineer Award, the
Emanuel R. Piore Award, the Distinguished Professor Award at theGeorgia Institute of Technology , and the 1992 IEEE Education Medal.Books
